Hardware

Designed by us, manufactured locally.
Our range of Time & Attendance and Access Control readers operate using either swipe card or proximity technology. Proximity badges are read quickly through a wallet or pocket without the need to remove the card.

All our hardware has been designed from the start to be as rugged and reliable as possible. It is particularly well suited to harsh working environments such as Chemical Plants, Engineering Works or Construction Sites. The readers are incredibly resistant to wear and tear, which significantly reduces the cost of ownership.

As all aspects of the terminals and readers have been designed by us, we are able to offer total flexibility in the functionality of these devices. As with all our products, they are both flexible and modular.

Gane terminals can be connected to the host PC in a number of ways, including LAN, WAN and wireless technologies. No two installations are the same, so please contact this office for further information.

The Panther Intelligent Controller (PIC4) supports up to four readers of various technologies and makes access control decisions locally. It has on-board networking capability and will continue to function even in the event of a network or server failure.

The Panther Barcode Reader (PBR) is designed to work in conjunction with the PIC4 as a serial access control reader. It has visual and audible badge read confirmation.

The Panther Intelligent Barcode Terminal (PIBT) is a ruggedised electronic time clock which can operate either as a stand-alone unit or in conjunction with a PIC4.

The PIBT can be permanently connected to your network via ethernet, or, if used with the optional Paknet cellular modem, becomes a mobile and flexible solution.

Luggable Clock
For sites where a permanently mounted clock might not be an option, we can supply a semi-portable solution. Our "luggable" unit consists of a standard Gane Panther Intelligent Barcode Terminal (also available with optional Proximity read head) mounted inside a metal cabinet (with carry handle) containing a rechargeable battery power supply.
The cabinet is fitted with a simple on/off switch enabling the operator to only turn the unit on whilst collecting data and thus maximise battery life. The unit must be returned to base occasionally for charging and data upload.

HID Proximity Readers
Proximity readers/cards use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to communicate over a short distance. Fast and efficient, as cards can remain inside wallets or purses during clocking and as it is a contactless technology, there is no wear and tear on the badges or the reader.
Benefits of using the proximity technology as opposed to other more traditional technologies include the following:

no wear and tear on the badges or reader
no routine cleaning of the reader
high throughput of employees
no queues to clock in or out
no damage to cards due to magnetic fields
cards can stay in wallet/purse for clocking
